24th July at Shisa Nyama the prolific Mr. So UG aka The Mith treated fans, media and the house to an intimate listening party. This was for his new album. It happened about 6 hours before its official release on DSPs/music streaming services on 25th July, 2024.
The long teased album, 5 years apart from the first volume, THE UGANDAN Vol. 2: BALI-OKWABWE is finally out. The tone for Vol. 2 was set last year with “Don’t Worry”.
The Mith this time round worked more with younger artistes. The prominent producer and rapper Dagg Mizzo executive produced the album. The sound engineering was done by the legendary Sam Lamara. Melanin Boy produced the track “Don’t Worry”.
BALIOKWABWE features Big Tril, Flex D’Paper, Navio, Pryce Teeba, Blixxack, Dagg Mizzo, Vini Mercy, Mike Mungu, Amal King, Triggah, MARTHA SMALLZ, Tracy Noelle and Lukas Blacc.
Bali-Okwabwe means those who get it from the soil. Those who figure it by themselves – revealed The Mith aka Bali-Okwabwe.
The album also features the talented Rwandan rapper, singer, songwriter and poet Angell Mutoni. According to The Mith, she is the only female rapper on the continent who recorded her verse in less than 24 hours. She sent it back promptly. Angell was up to the challenge. Stand up EA!
The soundscape for this album is wide. At the core, it is Hip Hop/rap. There are diverse influences from RnB and Afrobeats. It also includes Ugandan (Luganda) folklore like on “Tulo Tulo”. You’ll find a sample of Chameleone’s “Mamia” and more. SYSTEEMU (2023) hinted on what would come next from The Mith.
